The first meeting of Odyssey of the Mind will be Wednesday Sep. 16 at 3:15.
Mandatory practice sessions will be held on green Wednesdays at 3:15 for September through December. Other practices will be added as possible for these months. Additional practice times will be added as necessary, especially in the spring.
Parents of students participating in OM and interested others are encouraged to contact Dr. Auanger (lauanger@sbo.hampton.k12.va.us) to volunteer to help at the Regional competition in the spring. Parents are also encouraged to help supply snacks for the practice sessions.
I hope several of you will be interested in participating in and exanding Kecoughtan’s Odyssey of the Mind group for the 2009-2010 school year. Students who are new to Kecoughtan (including and especially 9th graders) are encouraged to participate as well as those more seasoned team players. Basically you just need to bring your creativity!
Dr. Lisa Auanger
This is the state’s website where there are practice questions, etc.
These are the problems that teams will choose to solve. Do you have special ideas or insights that will lead to a creative solution for any of these?
Kecoughtan’s Odyssey of the Mind team or teams will be forming at the beginning of the school year. Interested students are encouraged to see Dr. Auanger in C7 or send an email to lauanger@sbo.hampton.k12.va.us.
You may participate if:
1.) you meet the academic criteria for participation in extra-curricular activities
2.) your parent or guardian agrees that they will get a waiver for you if you are ineligible to participate by grades second semester (and you should not be!)
3.) you can attend regular practice sessions beginning at about once every other week beginning in September but increasing as we approach competition
4.) you are able to work with a team and contribute to it
5.) you can write, act, sing, perform, design scenery, design costumes, or contribute to the team in some other way
Groups of students who are interested in working together are also encouraged to participate. We may have more than one team, but no team may be more than seven students. Do you have six friends who meet the qualifications and would like to do this?
